Autistic and AuDHD’er Clinical Psychologist Monique Mitchelson discusses clinical considerations and up-to-date practice with co-occurring Autism in ADHD, emphasizing the need for neurodiversity-affirming skills and therapies.

During this presentation, Monique highlights the historical separation of autism and ADHD in research, diagnosis, and funding, leading to a lack of understanding about their intersection. She also emphasizes the importance of using person-first language and understanding intersectionality in autism diagnosis and support. Monique addresses common myths about autism, such as the assumption that autistic individuals cannot be health professionals. She highlights the intersectional loads that affect autistic individuals, including gender bias, ageism, and racism, leading to lower-quality care and late diagnosis.
